Artist Statement
Starting from a personal perspective, my practice explores emotions, longing and fragility. Experimentation is very important: the work gets its shape organically during the creation process by feeling and adjusting. The final form is not fixed from the start but is created during the journey. A work may ultimately take the shape of a photograph, an installation, or an audiovisual piece.
The essence is the experience it creates with the viewer. By drawing from my own sincere emotions and exposing my vulnerability, I evoke universal feelings in which the viewer can recognize themselves and, in turn, connect with the work. Seriousness and playfulness exist side by side. The often dry, humorous approach to sensitive themes results in work that feels both intimate and distant.
The body and water are recurring elements, as is the ineffable and the indeterminate. Nostalgia and tactility also keeps turning up in various ways. The color palette is predominantly muted and nostalgic. Archival imagery is often used. Through my work, I aim to make the yearning and melancholy that dwells within us accessible and bearable.
